Alternations, more alternations, and nothing but alternations
פרופ׳ אילן פישר אוניברסיטת חיפה
The lecture will examine human intuitive perceptions of alternating events, referring to the Gambler’s and the Hot Hand fallacies. I will describe the quest for a new and holistic set of psychologically meaningful generators of perceived alternations, revealing four perceptual sequence generators: chance mechanisms, human performance, periods and processes, and traits and preferences. I will present the distinction between two types of perceived categories: (i) fixed categories, which reflect an unchanging perception of the underlying reality, and (ii) relative categories, which reflect multiple perceptions of the underlying reality. Finally, I will propose a developmental model for the perception of change in physical and social environments.
