Leader Characteristics: Implications for Strategic Processes and Outcomes
ד"ר יאיר ברזון החוג לפסיכולוגיה, אוניברסיטת בר-אילן
Abstract
To what extent, how, and in what conditions do organizations reflect the characteristics of their leaders? Extending classic work on upper echelon theory, I report the results of several studies focusing on the psychographic qualities of leaders of organizations, in particular school principals. In addition, I will present work that sheds light on mechanisms, such as organizational learning and organizational culture, which explain the effects of personality traits, values, and behaviors of leaders on organizational outcomes. Taking a leader-organization fit perspective, I will present findings depicting the moderating effects of organizational change on the relationship between leader characteristics and both individual and organizational outcomes. I will discuss theoretical and practical implications for the study of leaders of organizations.
